Training bottom plate
In freediving a competitor is required to grab and bring to the surface a tag attached to a bottom plate, and give it to the judge as
proof he or she did reached the announced depth. The official bottomplate in competition has a 20 cm (8 in) diameter.
To avoid forgetting the tag in competition, we practice tag grabbing and bringing it to the surface in training dives. But the official bottom plate is big and cumbersome to haul it to the surface, to store it in your buoy, and to transport.
So for training dives here's a small bottom plate of only 11 cm (4.5 in) diameter. It is not suitable for competitions, but is great for practice retrieving the tag. All the gestures required in competition can be safely and precisely repeated. And this bottom plate doesn't have the inconveniences of a biggy official plate.
